What is Peer Support?
Peer support connects individuals with someone who has lived experience and understands that recovery can look different for everyone. Our North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialists are here to support you. Whether that means simply listening, offering encouragement, sharing lived experience when it may be helpful, connecting you with resources, or walking alongside you as you determine what your next steps look like—we’re here to support you along the way.

Your Journey. Your Destination.
We often describe a Peer Support Specialist as a “GPS for success.” A GPS does not take control of the car or choose the destination—the person behind the wheel remains in control.
Peer support works the same way. You remain in control of your journey. We are here to listen, help you recognize your options, connect you with resources, and help you navigate another route when obstacles appear.
Meet Our Peer Support Specialists:
Kimberly Redance, NCCPSS
My passion for peer support comes from my own lived experience. After nearly 20 years of struggling with substance use and mental health conditions, I know what it feels like to believe that life may never be different. Recovery changed that for me and gave me a life I never thought was possible. I also know how powerful it can be when someone believes in you before you fully believe in yourself. Today, I get to use what I have lived through to connect with others and help them see that their story is not over. That is what makes peer support so personal to me.

Daeqwon Currie, NCCPSS
My passion for peer support comes from my own lived experience and the connections I have built with others. After overcoming a decade-long struggle with substance use, 2026 marks 11 years in recovery for me. I understand how difficult that journey can be and how important it is to have someone who can relate. I believe in meeting people where they are, listening without judgment, and helping them recognize the path that is right for them. For me, peer support is about connection, empowerment, and showing others that recovery is possible.
