Lock Your Meds

Our Prevention Initiatives

67% of people who misuse prescription medications get them from family and friends. They think these medications are safe. But in the wrong hands, they’re not.

To prevent prescription medication overdose:

  • Count and properly secure your medications
  • Dispose of all medications responsibly
  • Spread the word in your community

Medication Drop-Off Events

The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) hosts National Prescription Drug Take Back Day twice a year – in April and October. The event aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for misuse of medications.

Next National Take Back Day: April 25, 2026
